HYALURONIC ACID (HA)

What does Hyaluronic acid offer to the body?

Hyaluronic acid is a substance that is naturally produced in the human body. It is the key molecule involved in the process of hydration and maintaining of the skin’s moisture. HA has the unique capacity in retaining huge quantities of water. It retains about 1.000 times its weight in water. This unique ability makes HA one of the most valuable “allies” in maintaining a more youthful complexion. It can also improve skin texture and promote a firm, revitalized and radiant skin.

A few words about Skin Aging

Skin aging is a multifactorial biological process. In an attempt to categorize the factors that contribute to this process, we would divide it into two categories:

The intrinsic or innate aging includes all those biological factors that over time affect all the organs of the human body. The decline in the production of estrogen and progesterone, sex-related hormones, begins in the mid-20s. It is proven that the deficiency of these hormones results in the degradation of collagen, dryness, loss of elasticity and atrophy of the skin.

The extrinsic aging is the result of exposure to external factors. Over exposure to the sun’s UV rays (UV radiation), modern eating (food) habits, smoking and living conditions (or lifestyle choices) promote the skin’s aging process.

Hyaluronic Acid (HA) & Skin Aging

Hyaluronic acid is a glycosaminoglycan (GAG), which, as mentioned above, has the unique capacity to bind and retain water molecules. Gradually, as skin ages and due to factors that have not been fully clarified, a decrease in the production of epidermal Hyaluronic acid by the body is observed. Consequently, the skin becomes dehydrated, loses its elasticity, atrophies and looks older.

Hyaluronic acid: The ‘Key” to Hydrated and Youthful Looking Skin

In the world of skin care and the “rejuvenation industry” many “magic” ingredients are now a thing of the past. Hyaluronic acid seems to be here to stay. The ability to bind water molecules has proven to be an excellent anti-aging property for millions of women and men around the world.

  • It fills in the fine and deeper wrinkles in almost every part of the face.
  • It corrects fine lines.
  • It helps to reshape the facial contour and restore the oval of the face.

Aesthetic Applications of Hyaluronic Acid

In addition to its beneficial role in anti-aging, hyaluronic acid has been widely used in a number of further aesthetic applications in recent years. Some of its facial applications are the following:

  • It increases volume & corrects the shape of the lips
  • It eliminates dark circles around the eyes
  • It improves the shape of the nose

Hyaluronic acid can also be used in many parts of the body to provide solutions to problems of asymmetry or even functional problems.

  • It adds volume to areas such as calves, buttocks, décolleté
  • It smoothes out the post-traumatic skin scars
  • It improves the contour of the buttocks
  • It smoothes out the unsightly wrinkles on the décolleté
  • It improves the hands appearance as it gives more firmness on the hands

Hyaluronic acid can also be used in the field of gynecology for vaginal hydration in menopause and restoration of moisture in the area, resulting in the improvement of sexual life.

How Is It Different from Botox?

Unlike Botox, Hyaluronic acid does not allow for facial muscles to relax. The combination of Botox and HA by an experienced surgeon is ideal for optimal results.
