HAIR TRANSPLANTATION

WHAT IS
HAIR TRANSPLANTATION?

Hair transplantation is a popular procedure for hair restoration and creating a new image on the scalp. Thanks to technological advancements and the introduction of new techniques, the method has become safer and more effective than ever before.

Hair transplantation offers a permanent solution in cases of extensive hair loss. Unlike older methods, the modern approach to hair transplantation provides exceptional aesthetic results that appear increasingly natural. However, a crucial prerequisite for the successful outcome of the procedure is its execution by specialized surgical teams who possess the necessary training and experience in the field.

What factors lead to hair loss?

Genetic factors (androgenetic alopecia): This is the most common cause of hair loss. It can occur in both men and women and usually starts from adolescence.

Nutritional deficiencies: Lack of nutrients such as iron, zinc, and vitamin B12 can lead to hair loss.

Hormonal changes: Conditions such as pregnancy, menopause, and thyroid problems cause changes in hormones and subsequently lead to hair loss.

Stress: Intense emotional or physical conditions can cause temporary (usually) hair loss.

Certain medications: Some medications such as anticoagulants, antidepressants, and beta-blockers can lead to hair loss.

Certain medical conditions: Scalp infections and some autoimmune diseases can cause hair loss.

HAIR TRANSPLANTATION METHODS

FUE Method

FUT Method

During the transplantation, follicular units are extracted from the donor area. This area is, in the majority of cases, the back of the scalp. The extraction of follicles is done with special tools, which ensure that no damage is caused to the surrounding area. Then, the extracted follicles are placed with implanters in the recipient area. During the procedure, no incisions or sutures are made, therefore there are no scars.

The result of the procedure is visible from the 3rd to the 12th month. In some cases, new hairs may continue to grow up to 18 months after the transplant. The transplanted hair fully integrates into the scalp and grows normally along with the rest of the hair.

It’s also worth noting that the method can be applied not only to the scalp but also to other areas, such as eyebrows or the face for beard growth.

A few years ago, this was the most successful hair transplantation method. However, it has now been almost entirely replaced by the FUE method. The most common argument for the prevalence of FUE over FUT is that the former offers more natural results. This argument is based on the way hair follicles are extracted. Specifically, in the FUE method, follicles are extracted one by one, while in the FUT method, an entire strip is removed. The second argument that complements the first is that extracting a unified strip of hair follicles requires a surgical incision and subsequent suturing, which then leaves a scar.

The truth behind this is that both methods are noteworthy and extremely effective when applied by the right medical team. The FUT method allows for the extraction of more hair follicles exclusively from the safe zone of the scalp (back zone), while the imperceptible scar created is covered by the remaining hair. The strips with the extracted hair follicles are placed in the recipient area in a way that precisely mimics the normal growth pattern. This achieves an excellent natural result.

IDEAL CANDIDATE

Hair transplantation is ideal for individuals with thinning or bald spots on their scalp. Although the procedure is more commonly applied to men with male pattern baldness, women experiencing hair thinning due to heredity or hormonal causes are also ideal candidates.

While transplantation can be done on individuals aged 25 and above, the ideal age range is usually 30-60 years. The procedure is more effective when hair loss has stabilized, to avoid the need for repeated interventions.
The best time for hair transplantation is when alopecia has stabilized and is not progressing rapidly. An experienced doctor can assess the nature of hair loss and recommend the procedure only if they are certain that the result will be permanent.

THE DOCTOR
ADVISES

Hair loss and alopecia can cause intense psychological pressure. People facing hair thinning or baldness often feel insecure, have reduced self-esteem, and feel uncomfortable in social situations. Hair transplantation can help regenerate a more youthful and natural appearance.
The results of hair transplantation are extremely natural and permanent. A successful transplant reverses thinning, filling in areas of the scalp that had lost their natural density. The feeling of your hair gradually returning can bring with it a new mood, renewing your relationship with yourself and enhancing your positive body image.
Hair transplantation is one of the most modern and effective treatments for hair restoration. Besides the obvious physical results it offers, the procedure has a particularly positive effect on an individual’s psychology, helping to restore their confidence and feel better about themselves.
It’s important to choose a doctor with certified experience and excellent reviews, who will correctly assess your needs and apply the appropriate technique for the best possible result.

CONSULTATION

THE SURGERY

RECOVERY

Pre-surgery consultation is a crucial step in the hair transplantation process, as it helps understand your needs and properly prepare for the procedure.
A detailed assessment of your hair condition and the degree of alopecia you have will be made. The quality and density of hair in the donor areas of the head will be examined, as well as the areas that need restoration.
During the consultation, available hair transplantation techniques will be discussed. The most popular techniques are FUE (Follicular Unit Extraction) and FUT (Follicular Unit Transplantation), and we will help you choose the appropriate method based on your needs and personal preferences. Choosing the right technique is crucial for the naturalness of the final result and the success of the procedure.

Hair transplantation is usually performed under local anesthesia, so you won’t feel pain during the procedure.
The process is divided into two main phases:
Graft Extraction
Graft Transplantation
The duration of the entire process varies case by case depending on the number of grafts required.

After the procedure is completed, you will spend some time in the recovery area for monitoring before leaving for home. The doctor will give you specific instructions for post-operative care, such as how to clean the area and what medications or products to use to minimize the risk of infection and support healing.
During the first few days after the procedure, mild swelling, redness, or slight pain may appear in the transplant area, but these symptoms subside quickly.

FAQs

How long do the results of hair transplantation last?

The results of hair transplantation are permanent. The hairs transplanted from the neck area are resistant to the balding process and will continue to grow normally for a lifetime.

Is the hair transplantation procedure painful?

Hair transplantation is performed under local anesthesia, so you won’t feel pain during the procedure. Some patients may experience mild pain or discomfort after the surgery, but this is temporary and can be managed with mild painkillers.

How long will it take to see the first results?

The first results from hair transplantation begin to appear about 3 months after the procedure, as the grafts start to grow. However, the full result may appear about 12 months after the procedure. Each individual is different, and growth time depends on many factors, such as hair quality and individual physiology.

Do I need to stay in the hospital after hair transplantation?

No, hair transplantation is usually an outpatient procedure and does not require a hospital stay. The procedure typically lasts 4-8 hours, depending on the extent of alopecia and the technique used. After the procedure is completed, the patient can return home the same day.

Can I return to work or my daily activities immediately after the procedure?

The majority of patients can return to their daily activities and work within 2-3 days after the procedure. However, for the first few days after the surgery, it is recommended to avoid intense physical activities.

Do I need to follow a special diet or take supplements after the procedure?

No strict diet is required after hair transplantation, but a healthy and balanced diet can contribute to better hair health. It is recommended to consume foods rich in vitamins and minerals, such as vitamins A, C, E, zinc, and iron, which promote healthy hair growth.

Which areas of the head are most suitable for donors?

The most suitable areas for graft harvesting are the occipital, temporal, and beard areas. These are used as donors for transplantation in areas with thinning or baldness, ensuring long-lasting results.
